GEOLOGY

The Department of Geology introduced recently in July, 2013 with the first batch of B.Sc. Degree Course in Geology. The primary objective of the Department of Geology is to impart the basic knowledge of Geology to the students.

Geology is defined as "the scientific study of the origin, history, and structure of the Earth." The scope of Geology is very vast and vital to the human lives on this planet. It is difficult to imagine the modern civilization without the resource geological inputs of coal, petroleum, gas, metals and industrial materials. Besides, the internal and external geological processes of the earth have been responsible for the present day landforms. The awareness of the geological hazards like earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides and floods have also made the lives of modern man more safe.

Geology is of great importance in the field of Civil Engineering, Mining, Petroleum and Natural Gas etc. The Department of Geology is mainly focus on Physical Geology, Mineralogy, Petrology, Structural Geology, Stratigraphy, Palaeontology, Engineering and Environmental Geology to impart the basic understanding of Geology to the students. The Department has well equipped laboratory and museum with proper arrangement of geological samples (rocks, minerals & fossils), models, charts etc to understand the theory and concept of Geology in an easy way. The departmental library of Banasthali University (Bhu Mandir Library) has very good collections of Geology books to fulfill the requirement of each student.

The Faculty member of the Department is currently engaged in personal research activities in a wide range of research topics such as Quaternary Geology, Sedimentology, Micropalaentology and Palaeoclimatic studies of the Great Rann of Kachchh, Gujarat funded by the SERB (DST), New Delhi.
