About The Department

Unlike other institutes, Banasthali Vidyapith's Department of Mathematics and Statistics is unique in nature for its interdisciplinary and PG Programs. Presently the department is under the umbrella of Apaji Institute of Mathematics and Applied Computer Technology (AIM & ACT) which was founded in 1991.The objective of Apaji Institute is to achieve synergy among the teaching and research in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Electronics, Physics and Bio - Informatics. One of the strong points of Apaji Institute is to infuse logical abilities and abstract thinking in its students by integrating learning of Mathematics in all its programs. The department offers B.Sc. (Mathematics), M.Sc./M.Phil./Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences (Pure Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research and Theoretical Computer Science).

Other than conventional courses, department offers following certificate and diploma courses:

        ·         Certificate Course in ‘Statistical Techniques and Applications’

        ·         Certificate Course in Actuarial Sciences

        ·         Diploma in Actuarial Sciences

The department is vigorously perusing research program. The areas in which the Faculty/Research Scholars are actively perusing research are

        ·        Pure Mathematics: Algebra, Functional Analysis, Manifold Analysis

        ·        Discrete Mathematics: Graph Theory & its Applications, Cryptography, Combinatorics, Communication Networks

        ·        Operations Research: Supply Chain &Inventory Models, Queuing Theory, Networks

        ·        Statistics: Small Area Estimation, Sample Surveys, Bayesian Inference, Block Design, Econometrics, Demography, Time Series Modeling

        ·        Mathematical Modeling: Fluid dynamic, Bio-fluid dynamics, Bio-Statistics

Today's Mathematics is not only limited in theoretical study but also it is fully oriented with computational work. As per the need in the society our Department has very good infrastructure supported by many software's. Some of them are listed below:

·         MAT LAB (2009b)

·         MATHMATICA (8.0)

·         STATISTICA (7.0)

·         SPSS (20.0)

·         MAPLE SOFT (15.0)

In 2007, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India awarded a “Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS)” in Banasthali Vidyapith (which is one of the four CMS in the country) for five years, and extended for one more year. In addition to the usual seminars and in-house research fourteen workshops and training programmes were held under the aegis of CMS.

DST Centre for Mathematical Science (CMS):

To motivate research, Department of Science and Technology, govt. of India has established Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) in November 2007 at Banasthali University under the leadership of Prof. Aditya Shastri and with financial support from Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India. The domain aim of the Centre is to create a centre of excellence covering all aspects of Discrete Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematical Modeling. Apart from carrying out fundamental research, other objectives of the Centre are the followings:

  • To Assemble excellent researchers who will be willing to take up any challenges in the country to successfully tackle them.
  • To Give consulting service on mathematical and statistical aspects to Scientists in other institutions, and university and college teachers.
  • To encourage excellent doctorates.
  • To produce research publications, monographs etc. and raise the standards of these to the international level.

Establishment of the Centre witnessed significant increase in number of students in Post Graduate Programme of Mathematical Sciences along with significant increase in the academic activities in department of Mathematics & Statistics.

In addition to the usual seminars and in-house research following conferences workshops and training programmes were held under umbrella of CMS.
