M.Sc. programme in Chemistry had started when the Department of Chemistry was established in 1970. Eversince its inception the Department has earned a good reputation of being an important centre of imparting the quality education in teaching and research. In addition to offering PG and Ph.D. programmes in Chemistry, the department also offers the UG programme B.Sc./ B. Sc. Hons.(Chemistry)/B. Sc. Hons. with research (Chemistry) at per the directives of UGC’s NEP 20.
In Ph.D. programme in Chemistry, more than sixty students have been pursuing research work in thrust areas viz. organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry, water remediation, waste management, corrosion, development of advance materials and on other related subjects. The Department has sixteen members in its teaching faculty. A good number of them are very senior members who have been serving the Department for more than thirty years. Their unstinted efforts in career building of the students inspire them to reach to the newer heights of excellence in their academic pursuits.
The postgraduate programme in chemistry has been designed to develop skilled manpower in the field of many disciplines of Chemistry. The high calibre of education which it imparts, prepares the students, on one hand to meet the requirement of the global demand of the trained manpower in research / industries and on the other hand equips them to excel as a new generation professional to face the challenges of the twenty first century.
