ABOUT CONFERENCE
Music is the highest platform of human engagement with abstraction. At the same time, it accords pleasant reward for one's efforts. Often, the joyous outcome deviates the practitioner from his original goal. Caught in the paradox of hedonism, the contemplative quest gives way to consuming emotions and faltering from path, the thinker turns into performer. This deviation leads to new forms and variations where past abstractions are coded into manifest sets of practices. Grammar grows out of distancing and in turn is violated to further create newer forms. Yet, there ever exists a thin stream of constant engagement with abstractions. Yajnavalkya terms such practitioners to be the truth-walkers on the pathway to absolution. It is more for ease that music may be divided into various geographic, behavioral or social sections; in reality, it is like water that can be stored in compartments but never cut mid-stream. This seminar would explore the methodology of engagement with concrete notes, imagined emotional fullness and leap to the abstract across various music streams. SUB TOPICS:

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT Established in 1943, The department of Music has been one of the oldest departments of Banasthali. It has the honor of having great personalities as its architects such as Raja BhiyaPoonchwale, S.C.E.R. Bhatt, Pt. VinayakRaoPatwardhan and Narayan RaoVyas. The department was the first to start M.A. Music (Vocal and Instrumental) under the headship of Prof. B.R. Deodhar and later the personalities like P.N. Chichore and N.V. Patwardhan have headed the department.
